After Hours Emergency Tips

Lost Crown

Lost permanent or temporary crown may cause tooth sensitivity. Here are some ways to manage the issue:

  • Purchase a Temporary Cement at a local drug store
    • May need to be reapply a few times a day
    • Avoid chewing on that side
  • If no sensitivity, leave off and call the office next business to have it evaluated
  • Contact our After Hours Emegency Line with Dr. Gibbs if you noticed any swellings or any questions

If you experience any toothache it is best to contact our After Hours Emegency Line with Dr. Gibbs. There may be an infection that may need antibiotics immediately.

  • If no allergy, over the counter medications (Advil, Motrin, Tylenol) may provide a temporary relief.
  • Please contact us immediately if you notice any swelling as this may be life-threatening.

Loose Teeth

  • It is best to avoid eating and brushing in that area.
  • Please contact us immediately if you notice any swelling as this may be life-threatening.

If you're not sure if a dental problem is an emergency, we offer this advice: If it hurts, it's an emergency. This is because even injuries that seem small can affect the living tissues inside the teeth. Quick response to a dental problem improves the odds of saving injured or damaged teeth.

Any obvious damage to a tooth should be treated as soon as possible. Chips or fractures can affect the living tissue inside the tooth, causing more problems in the future. We can prevent the damage from getting worse with early treatment.

The same is true of a lost filling or crown. Even if you don't have symptoms, the tooth has lost its support and it could easily become damaged. Pieces could break off or crumble, and you would need more extensive treatment. If you see us right away, there's a good chance we will be able to repair the damage more easily.
